Which bed storage option is right for your Truck?
Decked vs. CargoGlide: Security vs. Convenience
By: Jay Ehret
Bed storage is a big deal. You don’t want to invite just anything into your bed. It should be worthy and fit your needs. In this edition of The Naked Truck, we’re comparing the DECKED Drawer System (a full-bed-drawer solution) with the CargoGlide (a slide-out tray system) so you can see how each stacks up on the big questions:
- Will my stuff be secure from theft?
- How does it lock?
- Is it waterproof / weatherproof (and dust-proof)?
- How much payload / weight capacity does it reduce or support?
- Will it fit my bed?

__________
The DECKED Drawer System
Will my stuff be secure from theft?
The DECKED system has drawers that are secure and lockable: Out of sight and out of mind. With your tailgate locked, drawers are inaccessible. Adding locks to the drawers is an option to provide two points of security (the other being: you can’t get into DECKED in the first place if a locking tailgate is up).
Locking your tailgate makes your valuables basically bulletproof from theft. So yes — when properly installed with a locked tailgate and optional drawer locks, this system offers very good theft deterrence. That said, any mounted system can be compromised if someone is determined.
Is it waterproof / weatherproof and dust-proof?
Yes — Decked advertises their Drawer System as “100% Weatherproof … From Acts of God to carwashes … your tools and gear stay safe and dry.” Their blog adds: “All DECKED boxes are dust and waterproof, so they’ll keep everything doubly safe and protected inside the drawers.”
This is a big plus if you’re in Central Texas, hauling tools, gear, getting dusty and wet. Your individual results may vary, but you can confidently put your stuff in DECKED drawers and expect it to be protected from the Waco weather.
How much payload / weight capacity does it support?
For full-size trucks specifically, the deck Payload is 2000 lbs which you can secure to the top of the system with the integrated tie-downs. The drawer payload is 200 lbs per drawer, which can be organized with included and optional trays and bins.
That means you still can load heavy items onto the top deck surface above the drawers and still have significant payload capacity. But do note: the system itself adds weight (200+ lbs) which reduces your net payload a little (truck’s rated payload minus system weight). So you trade some net capacity because the system is part of the load.
For midsize trucks it’s a 1,000-lb deck payload.
Bottom line: Very high capacity for a drawer-system; better than many toolboxes.
The Security of the Decked Drawer System
If your top priority is keeping your tools, gear or high-value items locked up and out of sight, Decked is a strong candidate. The concealed drawers under the deck, the optional keyed locks, the high bed-deck payload capacity, and the weatherproof design all make it job-site ready and theft-resistant.
Will it fit my bed?
Yes — Decked offers vehicle-specific fitments for most trucks that are specifically designed to fit flush in each truck model.
__________
CargoGlide Slide-out Bed Tray
The Convenience of the CargoGlide Sliding Bed Tray
Will my stuff be secure from theft?
This is where slides like CargoGlide differ from drawers. A bed-slide brings your cargo out to you — so access is easier, but security (locked access) is not as good as a fully concealed drawer system. There are no lockable drawers, though they do have tie-downs and secure cargo retention.
If you combine the slide with a locked tailgate and a Tonneau cover or truck cap, you can still secure your gear well — but purely the slide itself doesn’t have the same keyed-drawer security features as DECKED’s drawer system
So: The CargoGlide has good security when combined with other protections, but slightly less “lock-drawer” built-in features compared to the DECKED system.
How does it lock?
The CargoGlide features an auto-stop handle and locking latch positions about every 12 inches of extension to secure the tray when extended or retracted.
However, the “lock” in terms of key-lock drawers is not the main emphasis; instead, the system is designed for access and tie-down retention. If theft-resistance is important, you’ll want to combine the slide with a locked tailgate and possibly a bed cover/cap.
Is it waterproof / weatherproof and dust-proof?
The CargoGlide is constructed of ¾” marine-type plywood plus a thermoplastic topsheet that is weatherproof and UV-resistant.
So yes the CargoGlide itself is weatherproof and will stand up to harsh conditions, but unless your belongings are covered by a tonneau cover or truck cap, they will not be protected from water and dust.
How much payload / weight capacity does it reduce or support?
CargoGlide models have a payload of up to 2,200 lbs on full-bed width models
This slide system supports very heavy loads while providing easier access. Again: you must subtract the system weight (often 150-400 lbs depending on width/length) from your truck’s rated payload.
The Convenience of the CargoGlide Sliding Truck Bed Tray
If your top priority is quick access to your gear, eliminating climbing into the bed, and being able to pull heavy items out with ease, the CargoGlide shines. It’s slick, heavy-duty, and built for real-world use.
Will it fit my bed?
Yes — CargoGlide offers multiple widths and lengths (full bed width, half width; depending on your bed length) and comes with a vehicle picker or fitment guide.
From their FAQ: “CargoGlide fits nearly every truck on the market.” You’ll need to check: bed length, bed width (full/half), tailgate clearance, any bed-mounted features (some incompatibilities).
...
Surprise! Why not get both?
You can actually get both products at the same time in the same bed. The CargoGlide is engineered to easily mount to the top of the Decked Drawer System with the expert installation offered by Pickup Outfitters.
Why one vs. the other — or why both?
Choose the Decked Drawer System if:
- You haul tools or gear you absolutely cannot lose or expose likie job-site equipment, expensive gear, etc.
- You want everything hidden from view and locked away.
- You like the idea of a deck surface on top (2,000-lb rated etc) plus organized drawers underneath.
- You don’t mind sacrificing a little bed-height or paying for the added system weight.
Choose the CargoGlide sliding bed tray if:
- You want maximum accessibility — no climbing in the bed, no reaching deep into the truck bed — you pull the tray out and grab your gear.
- You already have gear in totes, cases, or large items that benefit from sliding out.
- You haul heavy gear and want full-bed width extension or 100% extension.
- You still want heavy-duty construction and weatherproofing.
Or go both if:
- You haul a mix of gear: expensive tools that need to be locked away + large gear you frequently access.
- You want the best of both worlds: lockable drawers for tool security + a slide tray on top for quick access items.
- Your bed size allows stacking/configuring both (Decked system + CargoGlide or full Decked top with slide option).
- You want a premium build that stands out in the market (for your business customers who are truck owners). As a truck accessories business (Pickup Outfitters), offering both gives your customer base (35+ pickup-owners who want all terrain tires, bigger wheels, and premium gear) a full complement of solutions: organization + access + security.
